I can't explain to you why I have such a chameleon-like grasp on marketing, public relations and all that those two topics encompass... I have no degree, I just enjoy the topics and have around 12 or so years of experience in the field. I continue daily to strive for "marketing and PR" make up as much of my monthly income as possible.
In the last week or so I've spent a lot of time working on "outside content" for Facebook pages. "Outside Content" consists of things that are added into your news feed that you did not personally create...
For Example:
If the Facebook page is that of a city... Their posts would include things such as "office hours on holidays", perhaps what's happening out and about in the town today (if they're really staying on top of things) and other "city info" that they feel should be shared to the public.
NOW, if they want to "engage their readers/viewers/subscribers/etc, a prudent thing for them to add to their news feed might be a video on the history of the city. They could google to see if that exists, but if it doesn't - they'd be sure to find some links (surely to goodness), vintage photos or SOMETHING of their town...
How does that help? Well, let's say Suzy Jones is "following" her city Facebook page... She just likes to stay on top of things. As she looks through the news feed, she sees something "not so boring" as the usual updates and city info... it's a video from 1935...
"Holy Smokes ... what could this be?", she thinks to herself...
She opens it up and low and behold it's a video that talks about a tornado in her town that she'd never even heard of ... well, now this is interesting!!
Suzy shares it to her Facebook page....
"Hey everyone!! Look at this super cool video from 1935 that mentions our town!!"
Suzy's friends observe her post, some of them view the video and some of THEM add that "City Facebook Page" in fear that they could miss something if Suzy isn't on a binge of stalking and sharing...
